Battalions actually started as a Christian Worship Team in Sept 2004 by Godwin (Vocalist), Joshua (Guitars) and Paul (our Ex- Drummer). Very soon joined by Jacob (Bass) and Justin (keys). Performed in many Churches and worship centres. Paul had to leave to New Zealand for his Studies in March – 2006. This was the time when John Caleb joined in as the new drummer and the band decided to play heavier and challenging kind of music, the beautiful genre called Metal. The Band started doing Originals and the lyric for the first song Believe and Receive was written by John. But sadly John was with them for a very short time and had to leave the band for personal reasons. Then Vishal joined the band as the drummer and he set in the band very quickly. This proved to be the golden period of the band. The different influences the band members have has helped them to work together and form a unique sound. The band performed at many places and won many competitions with this line up. Now Vineeth has joined the band as the new drummer after Vishal had to leave the band for his work.

Other than doing shows at concerts and in competitions the band also still plays in Churches, Schools and orphanages. The Band concentrates on doing Originals and the lyrics is purely based on our Christian faith and values.

The band as pf now is workin on own comps.

Junkyard Groove(Chennai)

November 23, 2007

GENRE :: Rock / Alternative / Funk

BAND MEMBERS ::

Ameeth-Vox and Guitars
Sid:Guitars and backing Vox
Jerry:Drums
Craig:Bass and backing vox.

BIOGRAPHY ::

What do you get when you put a drummer with heavy metal roots, a guitarist with classic rock roots, a bassist crazy about Jazz and a very ‘volatile’ vocalist, in one band? JUNKYARD GROOVE This band has carved its own unique niche in the Indian rock scene, fusing rock with funk to give an uplifting style that reaches out to all ages; wowing the audience with a tight, high energy, flawless, musical stage performance. Ever since its conception in the summer of 2005, Junkyard Groove was nothing but your silly sense of humour trying to be creative and once it got rolling there was really nothing anybody wanted to do in terms of changing direction or slowing down the pace of things. With an inspirational songwriter in Ameeth and equally brilliant musicians in Jerry, Sid and Craig the band came up with some “wicked” compositions with truckloads of promise. The competition held at Le Royal meridian Chennai saw the band land up in second place, bagging the best guitarist award and probably the best verbally outrageous band award, if ever one existed. From there on the band tasted sweet victory at JIPMER winning best band, vocalist, guitarist, drummer and own composition and the second best bassist and rhythm in SPANDAN 2005. Next stop was one of the bands most memorable gigs at NLS’ Strawberry Fields, an extremely excellent experience, with loads of love and respect to all the people who made it feel like home. Madras Christian College came next and that saw very similar results with best band and best drummer. But the main highlight of the evening was, that from the previous show in Bangalore (NLS Strawberry Fields) the band grew a small fan base which resulted in the audience randomly requesting for their songs. Next up, home town competition at IIT Madras was great fun. The band made it through to the finals and walked away with best guitarist and a fancy Fender as a prize. Junkyard Groove came back to their favourite haunt JIPMER to perform at the SPANDAN 2006 pro show. A kick-ass performance at SHAMAL, Dubai saw them emerge victorious and landed them a 3 year recording contract with Creative Kingdom Records, USA. The band was the opening act at Dubai’s Desert Rock Festival 2007 opening for the likes of IRON MAIDEN, INCUBUS and ROBERT PLANT.

Nipun Nair-Lead Guitar

Vinodh Rubin a.k.a Tibu-Bass Guitar and bkv

Vinay Ramakrishnan-Drums

BIOGRAPHY ::

Chennai is probably one of the cities in India with large number of band counts. It’s a place where several bands show off their talent through different genres of music. One of the reputed names in them is PUBLIC ISSUE. A band that sticks to a wacky genre, comedy alternative funk. Inter department college culturals paved way for the formation of Public Issue. Tibu and Nipun got together for the cultural competition and they roped in fellow classmate, Vinay as their drummer, they found the spark of a perfect combination in them, Public Issue was born then, officially. Since then, their aim was to revive and find their own style of music. Like any other band, they wanted to make it to the lime light. After lot of hard work and lots of practice sessions, they realized that they were the perfect combo for some musical magic. But then, they dint have a convincing vocalist to suit their kind of music. Christopher, a commerce student from MCC marked his arrival then, an amusing front man and the perfect kind of vocalist the band was looking for. It was time for the individually talented musicians to work together as Public Issue. Seven months of hard work, Public Issue was seen competing on national stage. Not only that they placed third at Campus Rock Idols, they also got into the lime light they were thriving for. Some of their songs like From The Top, Swab, !xobile etc.. are among the favorite ones among their fans in India, especially in Chennai. Now, for a band that’s seven months old, the level of progress and achievement is some thing to cheer about.

LBG(Chennai)

November 19, 2007

GENRE :: Rock

BAND MEMBERS ::

Maynard-Drums,

Arjun-Bass,

Praveen-Vocals,

Avnith-guitars,

Aum-Guitars.

BIOGRAPHY ::

The LBG is a rock group from Chennai, India. They were formerly known as Little Babooshka’s Grind. They are noted in the Indian rock music scene for performing only originals and no covers.

LBG released its second album “Bad Children” on November 18th, 2006 with a special launch performance at Distil, Taj Connemara. The 11 song full length album (short listed from over 25 songs) was a culmination of over 2 years of song writing, dedication and hard work. The album was recorded over a 3 month period with the band taking time to reflect over the material and making the appropriate adjustments to bring their vision of a quintessential Indian rock album to reality. The band believes, as it did when it released its first album in 2004 titled “This Animal is called the Wallet”, that the songs reflect a certain state of mind as well as aspirations, fears and hopes for the future.

Tempered with a fair amount aggression and well rounded instrumentation, the album sees its members pushing the envelope in terms of what is normally considered “an Indian rock album”. It has also shot a video for “Basics of Life” that premiered at Distil.

“Bad Children” is a personification of the rebellious tone of the compilation and the band’s journey & adventure on the ‘road less traveled’

BIOGRAPHY ::

NerveRek was formed one sunny day in late 2003. After a few lineup changes we got lucky enough to realise that playing original music is the way to go in order to improve one’s sound; call it ‘feel’, ‘touch’ or what you will. We’ve performed mainly at Chennai, Pondicherry, and Bangalore, with one show at Razz in Bombay in 2004. As far as contests go there have been quite a few, the memorable ones being IIT Madras, JIPMER Pondicherry, and IISc Bangalore.

GO!!! Looking at things from a “normal” point of view has never been our strength. We’ve always been the kind of guys who go up, do our thing, and get the hell out of there before you can say “JazzJackRabbit”. This has no reason except that this is the way we are. Nerverek was formed one sunny day in August 2003, but the line up has undergone many changes. The present band has been playing together for about a year now.We’ve gone through a lot of shit in trying to evolve unique sound and musical style, and luckily, we realized early on that playing original music is the way to go. Being influenced by both thrash and progressive genres in a big way has led to our sound possessing some unique qualities; call it “heaviness”, “feel” or whatever the hell you want to. The band has played a number of competitions with different musicians, namely Saarang at IIT Chennai, JIPMER, NLS, etc.. Individual prizes were often won, but as a band, our greatest achievement was at Vibrations 2005 (IISc Bangalore), where we placed second overall, with Phenom and Myndsnare placing first and third respectively. Since then we have been winning many competitions (JIPMER, KMC, MCC) and have been playing pro shows (NIT, Trichy). Latest addition to NerveRek is Rohith on the keys… he’s a young talented lad, with great capabilities! So ladies, WATCH OUT!

Null Friction(Chennai)

November 15, 2007

GENRE :: Alternative rock

BAND MEMBERS ::

Bass – Abhishek,
Drums – Ansh,
Guitars and Vocals – Shreyans.

BIOGRAPHY ::

Null Friction was formed in Chennai, India in late 2005. Their music ranges from alternative rock to straight out hard rock. Despite being influenced by the likes of Guns n Roses and Metallica, theyre focused on finding their own niche in music and also writing songs which appeal to todays youth.

The band consists of three high school students; Abhishek on the bass guitar, Ansh on the drums, and Shreyans on lead guitars and vocals. The skeleton of Null Friction was conceptualized when classmates, Abhishek and Shreyans, discovered each others interests in music. On the look out for a drummer, they encountered Ansh, who had just moved to Chennai a few days ago. It was only after growing close as a band that they were informed of their drummers musical history, or lack thereof. It turned out that Ansh wasnt even a drummer, he just claimed to be one. But, up until they were told, neither of the other two knew this, and Ansh, delivering more and more outstandingly each time he played, gave them no reason to suspect. They moved rapidly through a series of equally interesting and cryptic names for their band, including The Teletubbies, White Fingers, Broken Bridge, and more, before finally settling on Null Friction. They decided to keep the name, because theyd made up their minds stop nowhere in their quest to succeed; seemingly frictionless.

After writing a few songs, the band decided to record their music. Being strong believers in the principle of Do it Yourself, the band recorded their first song, Somehow, in their schools Sports room with bare minimum recording equipment. The song was informally circulated on the internet and turned out to be a bigger success than theyd anticipated. After recording a few more songs in their living rooms, the band decided to go into the studio to record an album. Null Friction recorded four songs for their EP, World Wide Quiet. The album was sold at various venues by the members of the band and went on to sell almost all copies, within the first week itself! Null Friction has been rightly described by others as angry, powerful, and unpredictable. Theyre young, passionate, talented, and driven to do whatever it takes to go all the way.

As of now, the band is working hard on developing a unique sound of their own but like they themselves said, Weve got a drummer, a bass guitarist, a guitarist who sings, and an attitude and thats all we need. Its evident that apart from all of those, theyve definitely got a future as well!

INFLUENCES ::

That pain in the ass math teacher.

That ever so present hang-over.

That girl who lives down the street.

And all those bands who’ve spent their lives trying to make a point.
